About Us
CJJONES Fine Building Inc. had it’s beginning in 1995 as our President, Chris Jones, a new husband and father and needed to work! After working under a Master Carpenter initially while studying English at the University of Guelph, Chris progressed and was soon taking on jobs for himself. Starting by building his own home, Chris honed his skill and became adept at the trade, having hands on experience with all aspects of residential construction. Licensed as a Red Seal Carpenter with extensive experience as a Project Manager – Chris continues to be found with a tool belt on and a hammer in hand!
Partnering with Timmerman Timberworks in the early part of 2004, the company grew and began taking on larger jobs – expanding to 8 employees.
At this time in our history, Chris began wondering how the ongoing suburban construction could be sustained in our province. Studying principals of New Urbanism, and visiting places in Europe and the United States such as New Town, he became convinced that there were alternatives to suburban sprawl that represented better architectural practices and impacted our social and cultural fabric. He moved to work with John and Liz Hawley on The Village in Niagara on the Lake, a village Master Planned by Andres Duany around the principals of New Urbanism.
Brookfield Homes had just purchased a large section of the development, and Chris contracted his services to them and Project Managed their presence at The Village for four years.
As that chapter closes CJJONES Fine Building has launched a new division – The Backyard, focused on backyard building projects and continuing to offer full construction services in residential construction and new building.
We continue to be a family company, having both Chris’ boys working with the company in the summertime.
